Direct OEM replacement

The Rs506a replaces the Zund R506-A (5218142). It has a 6 mm shank, 6 mm cutting diameter, 22 mm cutting length, and 58 mm overall length, with the stop ring the ARC bit changer needs to set depth. If your router does not have ARC, you need the standard Rs506, which replaces the Zund R506 (5218141).

What this bit is built for

This is a general purpose routing bit for sign and display shops. It handles aluminum, ACM panels like Dibond and Alucobond, acrylic, polycarbonate, expanded PVC, and MDF. The single O-flute gives chips plenty of room to clear, which keeps heat down and prevents melting and re-welding in plastics and acrylic. The upcut direction pulls chips up and out of the cut for a clean bottom edge.

DLC coating and polished flute

DLC (diamond-like carbon) is a thin, hard coating that keeps the cutting edge sharp longer and reduces friction as the bit moves through the material. You can spot it by its black finish. Paired with a polished flute and fine grain carbide, it means less chip buildup, cleaner edges in aluminum and acrylic, and more parts between bit changes.

How do I know this fits my machine?

The Rs506a is the A-version with a stop ring, made for the Zund RM-A QC ARC router with the automatic bit changer. For the RM-L, RM-A, RM-A QC, RM-S, or R45-s, use the Rs506. Not sure which router you have? Contact us before ordering and we will confirm.

What materials does it cut?

Aluminum, ACM, Dibond, Alucobond, Alumalite, Alumicor, Maxmetal, E-Panel, Econolite, Pro-Lite, acrylic, polycarbonate, expanded PVC, polypropylene, plastic, and MDF.

What speeds and feeds should I run?

Maximum spindle speed is 50,000 RPM. The right feed rate depends on the material, thickness, and your machine. If you need help dialing in settings, contact us. We run these machines every day.

How do I know when to replace it?

Watch the edge finish and the chips. Rough or fuzzy edges, burrs on aluminum, melted or re-welded edges on acrylic, or fine powder instead of clean chips all mean it is time for a fresh bit.

Getting the most from your cutting table

A fresh bit is a good start. But if you are going through bits faster than expected, or edge quality has become inconsistent, the bit is rarely the whole story. Spindle speed, feed rate, depth per pass, material hold-down, and machine condition all affect how long a bit lasts and how clean it cuts.

It is worth asking: When was your machine last serviced? Are your parameters dialed in for this material? Is this the right bit for what you are cutting? Could your operators use time with someone who runs these machines every day?
