Direct OEM replacement

The K104 is a drop-in replacement for the Zund Z104 (5221104). Same form, same fit, same geometry. If you are running the Z104 in your Zund or Colex machine today, the K104 goes in the same holder with no adjustments. If you have the OEM part number and want to confirm before ordering, contact us.

What is through cutting?

Through cutting means the blade cuts completely through all layers of the material, including any backing or liner. The cut piece separates fully from the sheet. This blade is built for through-cut work. It is not a kiss-cut blade.

Fine Grain Tungsten Carbide

The K104 is made from fine grain tungsten carbide. Carbide holds its edge longer than steel and handles abrasive materials without breaking down as quickly. On high-volume runs through corrugated, sandwich board, or honeycomb, that means fewer blade swaps and more consistent cut quality across a shift.

Common questions

How do I know this fits my machine?

The K104 directly replaces the Zund Z104 (5221104). If that is the part number in your machine now, or if your dealer references Z104, this is the blade. It also fits Colex machines using the equivalent flat stock holder. Not sure? Reach out before you order and we will confirm the fit.

What materials does it cut?

The K104 is used on corrugated board, foamboard, folding carton, felt, leather, display board, carpet, sandwich board, honeycomb, sandblasting mask, PET acoustic felt, varnish blankets, 3M VHB, Zintra, and Fsorb. Max cutting depth is 0.314in / 8.0mm. If your material is thicker or denser than that, contact us before ordering.

What does flat stock mean?

Flat stock refers to the cross-section shape of the blade blank. A flat stock blade has a rectangular profile. A round stock blade is cylindrical. The difference matters because it determines which holder the blade fits. Flat stock blades are not interchangeable with round stock holders. If you are not sure which your machine uses, check the current blade in the holder or contact us with your machine model.

How do I know when to replace it?

Cut quality is the best indicator. If you are seeing ragged edges, the blade dragging through the material instead of cutting cleanly, or cut pieces not releasing from the sheet the way they should, it is time to swap. Do not wait for a full failure. A dull blade pushes harder on the material and can affect registration and part accuracy.

Getting the most from your cutting table

A fresh blade is a good start. But if you are going through blades faster than expected, or cut quality has become inconsistent, the blade is rarely the whole story. Cut depth, speed, pressure, and machine condition all affect how long a blade lasts and how clean it cuts.

It is worth asking: When was your machine last serviced? Are your parameters dialed in for this material? Is this the right blade geometry for what you are cutting? Could your operators use time with someone who runs these machines every day?

Flatbed Tools offers machine service, preventive maintenance, operator training, and workflow consulting. If something is not cutting right, reach out. We have probably seen it before.
